Anthony Atkinson & The Running Mates - album launch with Machine Translations (Duo), Duke Batavia and Amarillo

Tickets $10 + BF / $13 on door. Doors 8.00pm

Former frontman of Candle Records heroes The Mabels, Anthony Atkinson launches his third solo album Broken Folks at the Gasometer Hotel on Saturday, October 18.

Broken Folks is Anthony’s first album in eight years and, as with his earlier work, displays his uncanny ability to cast new light on everyday lives. The songs, with their roots in the narrative folk/pop tradition (and proudly displaying Anthony’s sociopolitical kinship with Woody Guthrie) would sit comfortably on a mix tape beside The Go-Betweens, The Bats and Paul Kelly. Performing with Anthony is his band The Running Mates who were introduced on his previous outing, 2006's Loyalty Songs.

Comprising members of The Zebras, Mid-State Orange and The Lucksmiths, the band cook up a formidable sound that ranges from delicate, shimmering, arpeggios and drifting pedal steel to all-out guitar racket.

Anthony Atkinson & The Running Mates are joined by special guests Machine Translations (Duo), Duke Batavia and Amarillo for a night of beguiling pop, folk, doo-wop harmonies and festive cheer.
