New solo project from Pop Singles frontman Tam Vantage. Forming in 2009 with a DIY approach and a love of bands like the The Chills and The Go-Betweens, Pop Singles 2012 album All Gone was recorded by Jack Farley and received widespread attention and positive reviews. The band did numerous self-funded interstate tours, charted in best of the year lists, and gained a strong following with their melancholic but hopeful chiming guitar pop.
After a change in direction and a year in the studio with Simon Grounds (Teeth and Tongue, Bushwalking, Laura Jean, Birdblobs, God) a debut album is finished. Seeking a release in 2015, the LP features lush, hi-fi production values, rich and intricate instrumentation, lyrical character portraits and ambitious songwriting.
The Boy Who Always Wins is the first single from the album - a gentle and endearing attack on perfection and the idea of the 'winner', reminiscent of bands like The Kinks, The Pastels or The Cleaners From Venus; toying with a love of 60's pop melodies and the breezy instrumentation of current indie bands.
