Picture a bunch of methed-up rockers beating the snot out Dick Dale with his own surf board while gaily singing Neil Young songs, then settling in after all the hard work for a nice cup of tea (Irish of course). Actually, Grenadiers are probably more of a coffee band. Their 2010 debut “Songs The Devil Taught Us” was likely to have left the listener jittery and excited, its espresso ferocity seeing them touring Australia several times and playing the Big Day Out and One Movement festivals as well as supports for bands like Strung Out, Every Time I Die, The Flatliners and many more. Triple J folk described it variously as “killer”, “so visceral, so energetic, so damn rockin’”, and “awesome”. Now with a new and improved blend of personnel, the follow-up album “Summer” is more of a dark roast, though just as likely to have you shaking like a wet dog and howling at the moon. May your cup runneth over. Catch Grenadiers at The Gasometer on Friday 30 January.
