Previously renowned for exclusively classic and popular soul, The Soul Contention's live show was made accessible by several long-standing residencies in Melbourne’s premier venues. A typical set-list reads like a list of collective favourites from the 60s and 70s as delivered by icons of the genre including Otis Redding, Wilson Picket, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Ike and Tina and The Four Tops. Delivered without pretense, The Soul Contention continue to render old-school soul with the intention to provide a big band sound to dance to. The band includes a complete rhythm section, 3-piece brass section and 2 backing vocalists to support Roly Nikora on lead vocals. Soul Contention return to the Gasometer for an encore show on Thursday 12th March playing 2 sets. Doors 8.00pm.
