Some of Melbourne’s brightest musical lights gather at The Gasometer Hotel this Sunday the 19th of July to commemorate the life and music of adored songwriter Jason Molina. A truly unique lyricist who explored the dark heart of American music like no other, Molina garnered a passionate following of fans through his desolate yet empowering songs. He remains best known for his releases as Songs:ohia and Magnolia Electric Co, recording a startling amount of music that spanned everything from broken lo-fi folk to triumphant psychedelic country rock over twelve illustrious years.
Assembled for the gig are some of Melbourne’s finest musicians and greatest Molina fans, providing their own renditions of Jason’s songs within the beautiful bandroom of the Gasometer. Headlining are country rock outfit Cherrywood, with Waywardbreed, Oscar Lush, Water Music and Nick Maher (Sydney) sharing the bill. More to be announced. Entry is $8 with music commencing at 8:30pm.
This gig is part of the Leaps and Bounds Music Festival and the Lost Lights Tribute Series.
