After a bit of a break from the live scene, we’re back with a new series of shows: Ripe Presents. Each gig will feature a curated lineup of our favourite Melbourne acts, and the first kicks off June 10 at The Gasometer Hotel with a cohesive selection of some of our favourite local guitar bands.
Our headliner for the night is the harmony-laden project from Melbourne-via-Adelaide mastermind Stephanie Crase, Summer Flake. Her sound is a glorious melange of genres and styles, equal parts Sonic Youth and Mac DeMarco, Hole and Karen Dalton. Having just released the wonderful 'Hello Friends' LP, they've got a host of eagerly-anticipated material to bring to you on a live stage.
Good Morning have had a massive year. Their ‘Glory’ EP, released in February via Solitaire, demonstrated the duo’s innate songwriting ability, melding lo-fi style with genuine musicianship. Lead single ‘Cab Deg’ drilled into our brains, and we’ve been hooked ever since.
Joining them will be Redspencer, the trio who grabbed our attention last year with their self-titled debut EP, out through Deaf Ambitions. ‘Happy Slow Riverbends’ struck all the right chords, before the oh-so-sweet melodies of ‘Ride It Out’ cemented it as a breakout track.
Our final band to grace the stage will be the five-piece surf outfit DIET. Relative newcomers, they’ve impressed us right off the bat with tight live performances and polished releases like 2015’s ‘Your House’, and their debut EP is just around the corner.
We’re chuffed to have brought them all together at The Gaso for a night of melodic guitar music, showcasing the strength of Melbourne’s up-and-coming talent.
Tickets are available for $12, or $15 on the door.
