Ask Xani Kolac (Clare Bowditch, Tim Rogers, My Friend the Chocolate Cake, Martin Martini & the Bone Palace Orchestra) to describe her latest batch of songs for her debut solo project, XANI, and she’ll tell you that there are “songs about being needy and songs that are downright depressing”. These are not words that spring to mind when one encounters electric violinist and AU Review Best Live Instrumentalist nominee, Xani, onstage or off. Being a naturally energetic and bubbly performer, Kolac toes the line in her songwriting perfectly between being “happy but kind of sad”.

XANI’s debut EP, simply titled, “1”, four tracks laid thick with country guitar, pop choruses, and Kolac’s own trademark strings that shimmer and soar throughout, will launch at The Gasometer on April 26th. Joining her onstage will be Mark Leahy on drums (The Twoks), Cristian Barbieri on guitar (Billy Davis), Josh Jones on bass (Dan Sultan), and crooning backing vocals delivered by Olivia Nathan, Jacinta Caruana and Rex Sutton.

In a thrilling double bill, This Way North are releasing their second track for 2017, "Pressure". Following February’s summer sizzler, "Head Above Water", the Melbourne duo aren't mucking around, creating another bangin' tune. Sounding like an 80’s teenage movie anthem, this pop gem drips with lush guitar and tight, synth-like drumming. Recorded during in a stint in Toronto with producer, Derek Downham, This Way North were pushed in a direction that neither could have predicted, giving birth to an exciting new alt-pop sound.

This Way North will head out on a national tour to all major east coast cities and SA, alongside some regional shows in the Northern Territory (Wide Open Space Festival), Queensland (Sol Bar Maroochydore) and NSW (Mullumbimby and Wollumbi) in support of "Pressure's" release.

Opening the night, Brooke Russell will effortlessly blend vintage Americana with widescreen, dark country, singing her songs about boozy nights, bad decisions, broken hearts and the best intentions. Brooke is currently in the studio making her much anticipated next record.
