10-piece afro-funk sensation Lyre Byrdland have been melting down clubs in Sydney for the past two years and are now ready to take their mix of Nigerian afro-beat and tight funk to the Gasometer as part of their first national tour. With a four-piece horn line-up featuring some of Sydney’s grooviest masters of brass and a powerful rhythm section that never stops moving, Lyre Byrdland has honed their distinctly modern sound to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Drawing inspiration from the greats of the genre such as Fela Kuti and The Daktaris as well contemporary powerhouses Daft Punk and Snarky Puppy, Lyre Byrdland’s sound is both reassuringly familiar like a comfy old sweater but strikingly fresh like a new pair of jeans.
Featuring members of The Cactus Channel, Emanuel Ciccolini's Tex Mex Takeout, The Brady's and other undiscovered Melbourne gems, Karate Boogaloo deliver serious grooves with the speed of a Jackie Chan snap kick but with the fun of Post Man Pat! What more could you want? Probably not much.
Laneous plays improvised soul with a loop pedal and lyrics inspired by whatever is going on at the time and a funky drummer.
