Long after most assumed the joke had run it’s course, low brow ironic indie outfit, ‘Gentlemane’, are back with a new album, Bird Song.
Bird Song combines consciously antagonistic production, with tedious lyricism and painfully frustrating instrumentation, to form one of the most difficult listens of the year.
The first single, Chess, was poorly received by critics and friends alike and is an accurate microcosm of the album as a whole. The high points of the album, including the bird calls on the title track, are quickly usurped by the crippling low points, such as the flanger on faux Irish jig, Dublin.
Gentlemane will launch Bird Song upstairs at the Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood on Thursday the 22nd of June with help from Boy Forever and lil Screeby $2 entry
