John Davis is a musician / recording artist / multi-instrumentalist most known for his work with Folk Implosion in the 1990's, as well as for his longstanding solo work with the Shrimper label, which dates all the way back to 1993 and continues to this day. His musical interests range from acoustic guitar based eccentric singer songwriter fare in the tradition of Syd Barrett and Nick Drake to post-trip hop loop based compositions, as well as catchy electric guitar hooks that recall '70's/'80's top 40 radio and the more anthemic side of Krautrock. Themes of his last record, El Pulpo, and forthcoming one, I Saw Sonora Hypnotized, are informed and influenced by his current work in public education and political organizing in Durham, North Carolina. He will be accompanied by drummer / electronic musician Rob Chamberlain on this tour of New Zealand and Australia. Rob has been playing drums in John's band the Cicadas since 2015 and writes and writes and records on his own with the duo project Evil English.
