The Sunday Assembly: Santa Taranta + Alma Mater

EP Launch - Free Entry

Santa Taranta will present his first EP at the legendary Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood. Santa Taranta is a Melbourne based bandplaying a mix of original music and traditional music from southern Italy. The group has hit the ground running in their first year winning over crowds at the National Folk Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, Piers Festival, VIVA Victoria Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Darebin Music Feast as well as many concerts at prominent Melbourne music venues. Santa Taranta are Salvatore Rossano and Davide Ierardi, both from Southern Italy (recently migrated in Australia), they grew up playing the traditional music of Puglia and Basilicata. Emiliano Beltzer is a fine guitarist from Argentina, joined by Nara Demasson (mandolin, guitar), one of the best musicians of the local music scene. Their musical styles include Pizzica, Tammurriata and Stornelli, as well as Polkas from the barbershop and the occasional serenade d’amore.

This first EP has been recorded in Melbourne and is already available at Readings, Mondo Music (Melbourne) and can be listened online at

Alma Mater reawaken the voices of worlds gone by, bringing to life the traditions of Portuguese fado and Brazilian modinha. The music is fiery, gripping, tense, yet surprisingly delicate. With its rare combination of instruments, diverse influences and musical cultures, the group creates a faithful yet effervescent sound. Alma Mater will take you back in time, to a world where delicate beauty and unrefined passion walk hand-in-hand down the snaking corridors of an antique city.
